Menthikura Pesarapappu / dal with fenugreek leaves
Hi..
Ingredients:-
moong dal 1 cup
fenugreek leaves 1 bundle
tomato 1
tamarind 1 small ball
green chilies 2
onion 1 medium sized
Talimpu/Tadka/Seasoning:-
Oil 1 tspn
Mustard seeds 1/2 tspn
Cumin seeds 1/2 tspn
Red chillies 2
Hing a pinch
curry leaves.
preparation:-
Remove the stems of fenugreek leaves..only leaves and tender stems are used to prepare dal.wash the leaves well in water to remove the sand and dirt if any.
Wash the dal well ..add 3 cups of water to dal in pressure cooker…add fenugreek leaves, tamarind ball,turmeric powder,red chilli powder,salt to taste and pressure cook it until 3 whistles..
after three whistles the dal will be nicely done…now if u taste the dal..all the spices such as salt n spice should be correct..adjust spices if necessary…
Now finish off the curry by adding tadka to it…heat a tspn of oil in a frying pan..when oil is hot enough add crushed garlic and sauté it for a minute..now add red chilies,cumin and mustard seeds..sauté till the mustard seeds pop up..now add a pinch of hing for nice flavoring..add curry leaves ..sauté for few seconds and off the flame..add this tadka to dhal and stir ..
