Sambar vada

Hi all

This vada is one of the most popular and common breakfast in south India .This is very simple n quick breakfast.All we need is the urad dal batter.

for this we have to soak urad dal for at least 4 hours and grind it.Vada can be a plain one or with onion and chilli added.


  • soak urad dal for 4 to 5 hours..later drain the water grind the dal into fine paste..batter should be very thick..dont add to much water..if the batter is loose you wont the round shape for the vada.
  • In the grinded batter add enough salt , chopped onions and chillies.
  • Heat oil in deep bottomed vessel for deep frying.
  • when the oil is hot enough , wet ur hand with water and take small ball of batter and make a Pattie on your four fingers of right hand ( u can also make Pattie on a wet cloth or some cover) .Make a hole in middle of the Pattie and carefully drop this Pattie in oil.Flame should not be too high..fry this patties to nice color on medium heat and remove them from oil.Don't forget to wet ur hand before u take each ball from batter so that batter wont stick to ur hand.

Have it with plain sambar or coconut chetny or with allam chetny.

If you have make this vadas and you dont have time to soak urad n all can also make it instantly with Priya Vada mix. I tried it and came out real good.I made 12 vadas from one vada mix packet.
